Also - don't forget that JANUARY 10th is our White Elephant Gift Exchange!  Just bring a wrapped item from around the house (or perhaps a Christmas gift that wasn't quite on your list...) and come to have fun with sisters!  If you're able to bring a snack to share, please do so.   Please RSVP by January 5th.

Monthly Book Club - official!

Our first book club meeting last night was a great success!  Thanks to those ladies who came out!

We decided to start a monthly book club meeting as a result.  These meetings will take place on the LAST Tuesday of every month.  Our next meeting, then, will be August 28th at 5:30 PM.  Mary Blain has been kind enough to volunteer to host this event at her home.

Our next book selection is What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty.  Find it on amazon.com HERE!

Book description from Amazon:  Alice Love is twenty-nine, crazy about her husband, and pregnant with her first child.
So imagine Alice’s surprise when she comes to on the floor of a gym (a gym! She HATES the gym) and is whisked off to the hospital where she discovers the honeymoon is truly over — she’s getting divorced, , she has three kids, and she’s actually 39 years old. Alice must reconstruct the events of a lost decade, and find out whether it’s possible to reconstruct her life at the same time. She has to figure out why her sister hardly talks to her, and how is it that she’s become one of those super skinny moms with really expensive clothes. Ultimately, Alice must discover whether forgetting is a blessing or a curse, and whether it’s possible to start over…

If you're a reader or want more inspiration for new reading, please join us!!   You can come at any time, even if you can't make it every month.

For August's meeting we ask each person to bring one new book suggestion (whether you've read it already or just really want to read it).  It can be from any time period or genre.  We will then select several books to put on the schedule for upcoming months.

Additionally, if you come to book club, please try to bring a small snack to share if you can.  It can be sweet or savory!

So here's the run-down:
Next Meeting Date: August 28th at 5:30 PM
Location:  Home of Mary Blain
7618 E. Oakmount (East Wichita, in the Willowbend development)
What to bring:  Yourself, the book "What Alice Forgot," a new book suggestion, and a small snack to share!

FINALLY - if you would like to be included on our "book club email list" please let Amanda know.  (Email me at ahaas47@gmail.com)   We won't continue sending out book club emails to our entire listing - we'll start only emailing those who are interested.  But we will always post about the next meeting and book choice on Facebook and our blog!

We hope many of you will join!  We had so much fun at the first meeting yesterday discussing Gone Girl.
Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions!

Alpha Chi Omega - For Now. Forever.

Sisters,

The 2012 National Convention of Alpha Chi Omega in St. Louis has just wrapped up.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to send a chapter representative this year (but we plan to in 2014!).  It looks like this year's Convention was a GREAT success, and we wanted to share something from the Convention with all of you...

A new video was debuted at the Convention that is about our life-long commitment to Alpha Chi Omega and the importance of investing in our sisterhood for future generations.  The campaign is called "For Now/Forever."  I know it inspired me, and it's sure to inspire all of you.  It's definitely worth a watch.

Enjoy!

Book Chat to BOOK CLUB!

We had a WONDERFUL book chat tonight at Watermark Books.  Shirley, a book expert there, gave us a rundown of some amazing new-ish novels and non-fiction works.  The sisters in attendance were all so excited to get their summer reading started.  We were SO inspired that...

We decided to start an Alpha Chi BOOK CLUB here in Wichita!

So - for those who are interested, we are gearing up for our first book of the summer.  July's book will be:

"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn!
(Click HERE to check it out on Amazon.com)

Description from amazon.com:
Marriage can be a real killer.
One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.    On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?    As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?   With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Stay tuned for more information about our book club!  We are planning our first book club meeting for the end of July.   So if you'd like, get to reading!  And get excited to share with your sisters!  I know I can't wait to start this book, it looks like a true page-turner.

In the meantime - tell us - what are your favorite books?  Do you have any suggestions for future reading material for our book club?

Loyally,
Amanda

Kick-Off Success!

  Hello, sisters!
Welcome to the Alpha Sigma Alpha Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega "blog" site!

I wanted to post a greeting as our chapter begins its new start.  Just a couple of weeks ago, we had our revival "Kick-Off" event at Caffe Moderne in Old Town Square.  It was a huge success - many wonderful sisters were in attendance and new ideas for the chapter were shared.  We are so thankful for all of you who were able to attend - you have inspired this executive board even more with your enthusiasm and encouragement!  I am so incredibly confident now that this alumnae chapter has a very bright future ahead and I can't wait to get to know each of you better.

For those of you who were unable to attend, we hope that you will be able to attend our upcoming events on May 26th and June 14th.  In the meantime, please bookmark this blog, along with our website, www.alphachiwichita.com.   And don't forget to "like" us on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WichitaAlphaChi
It's the best way to stay up to date on all the chapter's activity!

Also - please make sure we have your most up-to-date email information!  We will be sending out emails periodically for event reminders, etc.  (You can send your information to ahaas47@gmail.com.)   And as always - Spread the word!  Bring any Alpha Chi Omega sisters you know in the area to the next event!  The more the merrier.

Thanks for inspiring us and we look forward to seeing you all very soon!
